Sara J. Winston is a Hudson Valley-based artist. Using photography, writing, and the book form, she looks at every moment within reach to describe and understand the porous nature of the body, mind, and nervous system in order to explore and challenge representations of sickness, wellness, healthcare, and the ways in which we see chronic illness managed within and outside of medical settings.

She is currently working on a multi-volume book project inspired by her experience of autoimmune illness, looking closely at genetic & environmental factors that are believed to be the cause of symptoms. Two previously published volumes of this work include the books A Lick and a Promise published by Candor Arts in 2017, and Homesick published by Zatara Press in 2015.

Sara earned her MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2014. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in public collections including the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University and the National Art Library at Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
